LSUS will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2018 and to promote the celebration and their rich history the university archives has published a sample online Timeline. The administration was very impressed and approved more resources to complete the project.
Vancouver, BC – April 5, 2017 – Eloquent Systems is pleased to announce that Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS) has implemented the Historical Timeline module available in their new mobile-friendly Eloquent Archives system. The content for the timeline is entered into the archives database where it can link to content already there. It is published to the Internet with the click of the mouse and becomes available to everyone including Google and other search engines.
The university alumni and researchers around the world can now use mobile devices or any popular browser to get an overview of their 50-year rich history by scrolling down the timeline. They can also use the public search module to find photographs, oral histories, and textual documents in the University Archives. There is a seamless transition between the archives and the university website. They both use the same webpage header and footer.
“The roll out was well-timed. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary next year. The new mobile-friendly Public Search page and Timeline will be great for featuring University archives and history. I also think it’s great that we get so much more out of our descriptive database than just the display of our finding aids.” said Laura Lyons McLemore, Professor of Archives & Historic Preservation, LSUS
The Historical Timeline is an excellent entry into any archives. It provides a great overview of what the database contains and can provide direct links into all other relevant material. There is no limit to the extent of navigation after entering the active database. Some archival databases can support multiple timelines, one for the history of the institution itself and others for the various collections in the archives. The online timeline can be re-published at any time, if new material is added, with just a few clicks of the mouse.
