Newfoundland Archives go Public with Eloquent Mobile

The Rooms is the first customer to go public with Eloquent Mobile software, expanding access to the rich cultural heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Rooms Provincial Archives Division is mandated, through the Rooms Act 2005, to preserve those records of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador which are deemed to have enduring legal, fiscal, evidential, or research value. The Provincial Archives also collects records from private sources which have enduring value to the history of the province. Their holdings, many of them digitized, are now mobile enabled.

Smart PhoneThis public access software is used by all four applications – archives, library, museum, records – in the Eloquent WebSuite. The Rooms includes both library and archives for a cross-application search. eloquent-partnerThe seamless interface between Eloquent and Vitrium’s Protectedpdf software permits the customer to include highly sensitive documents in the same Eloquent database as other resources that are promoted to the general public.  It gives users “only one place to look”. The documents are easy to read anytime and anywhere on the Internet, automatically adjusting for easy reading on a mobile phone.

Access to confidential documents can be very secure. For example, the intended reader can read it, but cannot share or copy it. Other users are not even aware that it is in the database. All transmission is encrypted. There is no security problem when emailing them. Continue reading
